Band Goals/Objectives
Ø Achieve musical and movement excellence through the learning and enjoyment of playing a musical instrument.
Ø Learning and application of musical vocabulary and notation.
Ø Respond to music intellectually, emotionally, physically.
Ø Learn different styles of music through rehearsal and performance.
Ø Individual commitment to a group effort to make the band as good as it can be.
Requirements:
Ø Put forth effort to learn and improve daily, individually and as a group.
Ø Work towards proficiency on instrument (learn all major scales, chromatic scale, counting and playing
appropriate rhythms, overall musicianship)
Ø Participate in all concerts, (Holiday, Winter, Spring)
Ø Participate in all Marching Band performances (Half-time of all home football games, Veterans Day Parade,
Memorial Day Service, Stadium Show)
Ø Participate in all other performances (Commencement, Pops/Talent Show, State Large Group , any other state
functioned events the band elects to participate in).
Ø Participate in Pep Band (late December-February, pre-game and half times of all varsity girl/boy games).
Ø Attend any extra rehearsals scheduled (marching band season, marching band camp)
Ø Maintain a positive attitude
Ø Lesson attendance (minimum of 6 per quarter).

Ø Private study with an instructor specialized on your instrument.
Ø Honor Bands
Ø Color Guard (Marching Band)
Ø State Solo and Ensemble Contest

Objectives:

To learn fundamentals of good
performing techniques through rehearsals and public concerts.
Ø
To learn an appreciation for
good choral works, both sacred and secular.
Ø
To recognize the difference
between mediocrity and perfection in performance and to strive for perfection.
Ø
To gain personal maturity and
to broaden horizons through group participation and group experiences.
Ø
To enjoy the satisfaction of
worthwhile achievements.
Activities:
Concert
Choir is open to all high school students. No auditions are required. Emphasis is placed on singing for enjoyment in a variety of styles.
Concert Choir performs at all regular concerts and trips. Rehearsals are
every day. This is the main high school choir.
Credit: All members of Concert Choir receive a credit per semester toward graduation.
Other activities: All choir members are encouraged to participate
in State Solo and Ensemble Contest each spring. Students are also encouraged
to audition for the Dorian Festival at Luther College, the All-State Festival Chorus and to attend a summer music camp.
Awards: Awards are available for participation in many choral activities. Students may earn letter awards and endorsements of these each succeeding year. Senior award plaques are given to graduating seniors meeting point total goals at the culmination of their
high school careers.
