English 11 serves as the American literature course. The class will cover major American literature authors and their works.
Students will learn how to write papers using a thesis statement, specific examples, in-text citations, and APA referencing. Essays and analytical papers will be the required writing. Emphasis will be on analyzing and interpreting stories, plays, novels and poems.

Foundations of Writing is
a writing course that develops fluency and confidence in communication and clarity in thinking through writer's notebooks,
expository writing, analytical reading, and listening. Structured assignments
are used to explore personal goals and values, exercising skills needed for reasoning and writing across the curriculum.

This class is designed to
help students improve their speaking abilities. Students will be taught to prepare
and present speeches on a variety of topics. Also, the students will examine
speaking skills necessary for job interviews and on-the-job situations. This
class will be required for all students.
Journalism

This course will explore
both print and broadcast journalism. Students will be required to write for the
Ed-Co Echoes while taking the course. Students will write a variety of news articles,
including straight news stories, and feature stories. Students will also develop
a long range, in-depth assignment that will involve interviewing and research skills.
Students will also be required to examine both print and broadcast journalism critically. Students will need some computer skills for this course.

The focus of this class will center on reading and
writing. Technology will be used to enhance student learning. Students will compose several pieces of creative
writing while employing the use of different technology mediums. In addition, students will interpret and analyze selections
of contemporary literature. Photo essay, digital storytelling, web quest, and author study are examples of class activities.
