Kindergarten News
Wow! We can hardly believe that our year
is almost half way through. Before we know it, it will be springtime. WE HOPE! This crazy weather has made it
hard for the children to get back into a routine but they are real troopers and continue to absorb and learn.
After break, we’ve been busy learning more
letters, numbers, and sight words. We’ve also been working really hard on our letter sounds and trying to put them
together to make words. By now, we’ve studied 17 letters and 24 sight words. In math, we’re working really
hard to recognize numbers up to 50 and now on to 100.
This past month we happily studied
Hh! We learned a new song about hiccups and read a story called A House is a House for Me. Journaling
is a great way for us to practice stretching out words. So during Hh week we glued in a paper helicopter and wrote
about it. On Friday, January 15th, we had the chance to “snuggle up with a good book.” Every child
received a free book to keep. After picking out the book, we enjoyed a warm cup of hot cocoa. The Ed-Co Partners and local
businesses make this RIF program possible. On January 22nd, we had parent centers. During parent centers, we
played sight word “Ouch” and hopscotch, made a paper plate owl, decorated our painted snowmen, and made snowflakes.
Thank you to all the parents who volunteer over the year to make these centers possible. The children have such a
wonderful time!
Depending on our weather, we will be celebrating our 100th day
of school around the 8th of February. The students are really looking forward to this day. They will be bringing
in small paper sacks full of 100 items. The students will get a chance to share clues about their objects and have the class
guess what is in their bag. Later we will practice different math skills when we use our scale to weigh the different
items to see which items weigh the most and the least.
We’re looking forward
to another great month of school! We have conferences coming up on February 17th and 18th. We
are seeing a lot of great things from these children and have confidence they will become awesome readers and writers!
The students have grown significantly and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the school year brings!
