Iowa’s Regent Universities, Iowa, Iowa State, and UNI,
announced this past spring that they will be using a new method of admitting students to their schools beginning in the fall
of 2009. All three universities will be using a calculated RAI (Regent Admissions Index) score, in addition to their regular
course requirements in the core areas, to determine admission status for all students applying for admission for fall 2009. The RAI index score is calculated by following this formula:
ACT composite score X 2
+
High school rank expressed as a percentile
score (i.e. 80%ile)
+
High school GPA X 20
+
Number of high school courses completed in
core subject areas(math, English, social studies, and science).

A “web calculator” that can be used to help calculate
a students RAI index score can be found at http: http://www2.state.ia.us/regents/rai/. If you are a junior and considering attending one of the “big three” state schools in Iowa, you should
be looking into your RAI score now to determine where you stand.
