Ag News
Ed Wadsworth
As 2nd quarter comes to end I would like to wrap up what has been going on in Agricultural Education at ED-CO. This
quarter three classes were taught in the shop; natural resources, ag drawing, and advanced welding.
The Natural Resources class studied soils, forestry, water, wildlife, fossil
fuels, outdoor recreation, natural resources economics, and alternative energies. The cold weather kept us inside doing labs
but we were able to sneak outside to do soil and forestry labs.
Ag drawing has been studying auto cad and architectural drawings. Students in this class have been drawing house
and business plans. They should be able to design their own homes now.
Advanced welding has been doing welding projects most of the quarter and we have produced some fine works of art
with metal. The class has also been busy beginning the restoration of a John Deere A tractor. It has been a learning process
for all; if you think it sounds as cool as I think it is, stop out and see the progress.
The FFA has been busy selling fruit. We sold over $18,000 of fruit, meats, and popcorn. The chapter
went bowling and attended a district bowling event in Manchester. We had a state officer come and visit us. The Clayton soils
team attended a banquet and received their plaques (irst time in ten years). Great Job. Members have been practicing for Speaking
CDE competitions coming up in February. Members have also been planning spring activities.
We hope to have the greenhouse up and running this spring, so be on the lookout for a spring plant sale. If there
are any special plants that you would like, let us know.
